„Ogniste pióra: perska epopeja" - Hamid Rahmanian - Fictionville Studio & Banu Productions (USA)

X-wieczna perska epopeja Shahnameh (Księga królów) przeniesiona w barwny, trójwymiarowy świat teatru cieni, masek i filmu. Niesamowita produkcja zrealizowana z dużym rozmachem przez tandem twórców: irańskiego artystę wizualnego Hamida Rahmaniana i we współpracy z mistrzem teatru cieni Larrym Reedem.

O randze artystycznej tego przedstawienia świadczą miejsca jego prezentacji: Metropolitan Museum of Art (Nowy Jork), Harvard University (Boston), Brooklyn Academy of Music (Nowy Jork), Freud Theatre (Los Angeles), Cowell Theater (San Francisco). Występ w Krakowie będzie pierwszym pokazem spektaklu poza USA.

„Jeden z najwspanialszych eposów wszechczasów i mój ulubiony "Shahnameh" (Księga królów) powołany do życia w niezwykle spektakularny sposób przez Hamida Rahmaniana, dzięki lalkom teatru cieni i filmowym sztuczkom." /Francis Ford Coppola – słynny hollywoodzki filmowiec/

„8 aktorów, 160 lalek, 15 trójwymiarowych masek i kostiumów oraz 158 animowanych, filmowych planów rzucanych na olbrzymi ekran. Niesamowite!" /Los Angeles Times (USA)/

„Zakazana miłość. Morskie okręty i morskie węże. Epicka bitwa, by ocalić starożytną Persję. /KCET (USA)/

Fictionville Studio & Banu Productions"Feathers of Fire: A Persian Epic" (USA)

A 10th century Persian epicShahnameh (The Book of Kings) translated into a colourful 3D world of shadow theatre, mask theatre, and movie. Avisually breath-taking cinematic shadow play created by Hamid Rahmanian, an Iranianvisual artist, and in collaboration with shadow master Larry Reed from the USA. The former is a 2014 Guggenheim scholarship holder, and the latter has for years combined the tradition of Balian Wayang Kulit with the technology of the contemporary shadow theatre. The main characters of the magic story which is full of unpredictable twists and turns, Zaul and Rudabeh – Persian counterparts for Romeo and Juliette, are entangled in merciless fortunes. Will their love win?

The production is most spectacular. It is a masterpiece of live imaging against a large screen with the use of shadow theatre techniques and movie. A truly exceptional experience. Outstanding Iranian composers, Loga Ramin Torkian and Azam Ali have contributed to the show's success. The oriental music (the singing, as well as such instruments as saz, the Ney, kamman) and ornaments take us back to the 10th century Persia.

"Iran is always in the news, and 99% of the time, it's a negative light," says the author of the show, Hamid Rahmanian. "I challenge the stereotype. I highlight the strength of the culture. I always avoid being political — because politics comes and goes. What's remained, what you're proud of, is your culture."

The artistic significance of the performance is best evidence by the venues in which it has been presented: the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Harvard University (Boston), Brooklyn Academy of Music (New York), Freud Theatre (Los Angeles), Cowell Theater (San Francisco). The Krakow performance is going to be the first performance outside the USA.

"Lovers beset by obstacles! Sea faring ships and sea dragons! And an epic battle to save ancient Persia! This might look like the next big-budget animated Disney movie but would you believe you're watching live theatre? The play is called "Feathers of Fire" and the visuals are jaw-dropping. The technique is called shadow theater and the tradition is as old as humankind." /KCET/
